January Virtual Meeting

The December Virtual Party was a great event. Most of us dressed for the event (with decorative and creative Christmas hats), we played games and laughed. A silent auction raised funds for a charity we are supporting this year, the Comox Bay Care Society Care-A-Van, a mobile outreach health unit.

Our next Virtual Get-together will be on Monday, January 11 at 7:00 pm. The guest speaker will be Heather Ney from the Comox Valley Transition Society. The Society supports women, children and families in the Comox Valley who are experiencing or fleeing abuse, overcoming trauma, working toward/through recovery, and those who are unsheltered and/or struggling through poverty.

If you are not yet a member, you can still join us. Just fill in the form on Contact Us on the menu bar. Request a link to the Zoom meeting or ask questions about joining.

Current members will receive a link to the Zoom meeting in your inbox before the meeting. If you do not receive the link by email, please contact us at [email protected] and let us know you are not receiving emails.

January Message from the President

January President’s message

Welcome to the New Year! Hopefully, this will be a year of healing and renewal for everyone.

As we all know, the Province has extended the restrictions against in-person meetings to February 5th, so we will confine our Newcomers activities and meetings to Zoom. We will hold our next general meeting on Monday, January 11th at 7:00 pm.

We encourage everyone to attend as the Website Committee will share an outline of the proposal to revamp our website. The Executive is recommending that the members pass the motion authorizing the expenditure. I hope to see you all there.

Other club meetings are also being held via Zoom. If you have a Zoom friendly idea or an expertise that you would like to share with the members, please let Shelley Marshall, our activities coordinator, know so we can arrange it. We will then share the Zoom ID and password with you.

If we coordinate the timing, we can use the Zoom account to schedule many opportunities, including different exercise groups, social chats, shared movie nights, discussions about favorite series, games nights, even current events. Hosting one of these could be of enormous benefit to our group.

In the meantime, there is the entire Valley to explore on foot, on your bike, or even in your car or camper. If you love to watch the storms, you can easily pop down to Point Holmes or Goose Spit. Nymph Falls is breath-taking right now.

We can all share some of our favorite places at the general meeting in the breakout rooms. What are some of your favourite places to go in the Comox Valley?
